Update scripts

Application Monitoring services use a script to execute a series of steps to test your application. These scripts can perform many different types of actions, from an e-commerce checkout, to verifying an account balance, or simply checking that logging in and out goes smoothly.

The Webmetrics support team is happy to help you develop and maintain scripts to test your application. Simply contact support@webmetrics.com or call 888-367-4820 and a support team member will update your script. However, if you would prefer to update your scripts yourself, you are welcome to do so.

NOTE: RIA scripts undergo an automated approval process to verify that the script is functional before it can be used in a service. For additional information, see RIA_Automated_Script_Approval_Process.

To access the script for your service, do the following:

  1. Click on the name of the service you want to update. You can do this either from the Dashboard or the Services window located on the left-hand side of the Services tab page.
  2. Click on the Scripts sub-tab for your service. You will see the Script Development window:

The current monitoring script is displayed in the Current Script window, with the name of the script appearing next to it. If no name has been specified, the script is called Default and is overwritten every time a change is saved.

The Apply Alternate Scripts drop-down menu allows you to select a previously saved script and make that the current monitoring script. Selecting it from the menu automatically applies the script. If no scripts have been saved, then the only script appearing in the menu will be Default.

To save a copy of the current script:

  1. In the box next to the Save As button below the Current Script area, enter a name for the script.
  2. Click the Save As button.
  3. Check that the script was saved by looking for the script name in the Apply Alternate Scripts drop-down menu.
  4. Apply the saved script by selecting its name from the drop-down menu.

The Current Script area shows you the script that is currently being used to monitor your application. This is where script development can take place. After making any changes, be sure to click the button to save your changes, or the button to save your changes and test the script to ensure the changes were successful.

Below the Current Script area, there are five links:

  • Examples - some example scripts to help you get started.
  • Language Reference - a list of the Webmetrics scripting directives and how to use them in your scripts.
  • Secure Sensitive Data - a utility to encrypt sensitive data, such as usernames, passwords, or test credit card numbers. Click the link to load the utility and view examples.
  • FAQ - some common scripting-related questions.
  • Full Screen Script Editor - expands the script window to display line numbers and minimize scrolling.
